Just announced – train travel will be completely free across NSW for two days! From 12:01am Thursday 31 July to 11:59pm Friday 1 August 2025, you can ride Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink, Airport Link, and Sydney Metro services without paying a cent.
During this time, the Opal gates and readers will actually be switched off, so you won’t even need to tap on or off. If you’re using NSW TrainLink services, you still need to book a ticket to secure your seat, but you’ll get refunded after.
Buses, ferries, and light rail aren’t included though, so make sure you still tap on and off as usual for those.
