Officeworks has dropped the Starlink Standard Kit to $274, cheaper than the usual $399 RRP.
This a pretty decent price, especially for rural areas or folks struggling with dodgy NBN setups. Some users are reporting 370Mbps download speeds in remote areas with quick setup times and flexibility. No contracts, and you can pause/resume service as needed.
If you’re in suburbia and already have a solid FTTP or FTTC connection, Starlink probably isn’t for you. But for regional towns, travellers, renters, or anyone needing a quick fix, it could be worth a look, especially if you’re dealing with delays or poor line maintenance.
Plans start from $79/month for Lite (45 to 130Mbps down) and $99/month for Standard (270 to 400Mbps down), and it looks like there’s a $20 plan discount going around for new signups.
One catch: some areas are seeing a one-time demand surcharge of $1295, so best to check your address on the Starlink site before jumping in.
Quick pros:
- Setup in 20 minutes
- No lock-in contract
- Can be paused
- Good speeds in rural areas
Cons:
- Upload speeds average around 30Mbps
- May not beat NBN 100/40 for power users
- Needs outdoor install (roof, backyard, etc.)
